As realistic as an active-ragdoll physics engine can make a 2D stickman: bones are connected by rigid joints, gravity and momentum act on every point at all times, and a landed hit injects a genuine physics impulse rather than switching to a canned "hit" animation. The wobble, stumble, and recovery you see is the simulation, not a script.

Punches come out faster and are safer to throw at close range. Kicks are slower to wind up but hit harder and knock back further, which makes them the better tool for finishing a rival who is already near the edge of the platform.

A ring-out is winning a round by launching your rival completely off the edge of the platform instead of draining their health bar. Ring-outs bank an extra score bonus based on how far your rival flew before falling — the reason a single well-placed kick can outscore a slow grind.
